Podcast obsession: Sword and Scale

Well this post went out before I planned too, so I need to apologise if anyone saw it and wondered “wtf?”..

Anyway, on with the show: Sword and Scale is a podcast that I’ve been listening for a while and I still haven’t decided if I like it or not. I started with a very interesting episode, then went on to a two-parter that turned out to be anything but crime, and while I appreciated and understood the principle behind it, I was (frankly) bored way before the end, and found all the interviews and phone conversations quite redundant (a criticism I felt I wanted to apply to another podcast that I haven’t reviewed yet, and which in fact I am not going to review because I stopped listening to it in the middle of the third episode). After that, I kept listening because I was determined to like it, and I did find some good and interesting cases, but the jury is still out on whether or not I will continue…

Episodes I would like to recommend:

Episode 98 – a case of deception and betrayal, really well told and captivating from beginning to end.

Episode 112 – probably my favourite so far: a missing child, a macabre discovery, and a story that has only just recently ended. Thought-provoking.

Episode 100 – a two-parter, so it’s episode 100 and 102. A very interesting case, which is probably what I liked. Not sure it needed two episodes to be told, but it might be just me.

I might update this post at some point, as I am still going through the cases and spending a considerable amount of time on the treadmill, pounding miles and listening to the host talking about these stories…
